Automotive Diagnostics

Don't Just Read the Code. Find the Problem.

Today's vehicles depend on sophisticated electrical, electronic, and mechanical systems. When a warning light comes on, the diagnostic trouble code can provide an important clue—but the code itself does not always identify the failed part.

At Cliff Auto Solutions, we approach diagnostics as a process of testing and verification.

OUR PROCESS

Our Diagnostic Process

01

Understand the Complaint

We start by determining what the vehicle is doing, when the problem occurs, and whether there are warning lights, unusual noises, performance changes, or other symptoms.

02

Scan the Vehicle

We retrieve available diagnostic information and trouble codes from the vehicle's electronic systems.

03

Inspect the Vehicle

We look for visible problems involving wiring, connectors, leaks, damaged components, grounds, fuses, relays, and other relevant systems.

04

Test the System

Depending on the problem, testing may include voltage, resistance, continuity, power and ground checks, circuit testing, and component testing.

05

Identify the Cause

The objective is to determine which system or component is actually responsible for the problem—not simply replace the part associated with a trouble code.

06

Explain the Findings

We explain what was found and what repair or additional testing may be necessary.

WHAT WE CAN HELP WITH

Problems We Can
Help Diagnose

• Check-engine lights

• No-start conditions

• Crank/no-start conditions

• Intermittent starting problems

• Reduced-power conditions

• Charging-system problems

• Electrical faults

• Battery drain

• Warning lights

• Drivability problems

• Rough running

• Overheating

• Sensor-related faults

• Communication faults

• Wiring problems

• Fuse and relay issues

OUR PHILOSOPHY

Diagnostic Testing Is
Not Guesswork

A vehicle can store a code for a sensor because the sensor is reporting a condition caused by another problem.

For that reason, replacing a component based only on a trouble code can result in unnecessary parts and additional expense. Our goal is to use the available information, perform appropriate testing, and provide a repair recommendation based on the findings.
